Most large
institutions are required in some degree to produce what could be termed
stakeholder reports. In annual reports, for example,
publicly held companies,
government agencies, and nonprofits assess the past year's performance, tell stakeholders how their
interests are being managed, and outline important strategies and plans.
Government agencies and other recipients of public funds are often
required to report on a periodic basis the progress they are making in
achieving particular objectives.
Over the years I've done a fair amount of such work. I've written,
co-produced, or produced about two dozen annual reports and a similar
volume of reports to legislatures and other funding sources.
